(5/21/13)--This opportunity comin' at ya outta Canada!
NO SWIMMING
Any person/animal/thing will participate in the world through the means in which it is capable of. This exhibition titled "NO SWIMMING" seeks to present unique ways in which things (conscious and unconscious) interact with the limited spaces around them: what happens when physical boundaries are restrictive? What is a physical boundary? How do things acknowledge physical boundaries and react to them? How do we/can we/should we move beyond physical boundaries?
Artists are asked to make visual art that responds to these questions. PLEASE NOTE: These questions should refer to only PHYSICAL boundaries; artists should refrain from working with the idea of boundaries through politically or socially loaded concepts--however everything will be considered for the show.
A group show of 10-12 artists will run from July 23-July 31, 2013 at Project Gallery, Toronto, Canada. Curated by Oscar Figueroa. This call is specifically posted in cities outside of Toronto as an opportunity for cross-provincial and international artists to exhibit alongside other artists working with similar questions.
All media is accepted for this show. Email 2-5 images (with title, size, medium) and a brief 100-word description of your work. Deadline to submit is July 10, 2013, 11:59pm. Selected artists will be notified before July 13, 2013.
There is no submission fee. However selected artists who wish to participate require a $50 exhibition fee that covers the cost of the gallery. The gallery will also accept a 20% commission from any sale.
Participating artists may show their work in two ways; both options require the $50 exhibition fee.
1. Artists may ship their work to Toronto at their own expense (including return fare).
2. Artists may have their work printed by myself at no cost to the artist. Note that decisions about the size, paper (colour or b/w) for these prints will be made by myself (Oscar Figueroa) in consultation with the artist.
